The Ministry of Health is organizing a capacity building workshop for national leaders at the Meridien Hotel. The workshop will launch the regional project “Joint Initiative on the Response to HIV/AIDS in the Arab States Region" (OFID). The workshop is organized under the patronage of the Ministry of Health and in close coordination with the Ministry of Awqaf and the State Planning Commission, and with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the HIV/AIDS Regional Programme in the Arab States and the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID). The objectives of the regional project are as follows:
- Creating broad-based, multi-sectoral and multi-level response from regional to country level integrating HIV/AIDS into national and regional development planning aimed at multi-sectoral leadership.
- Deeper understanding of socio-economic determinants of the epidemic generated and strategies developed to mitigate socio-economic impact of HIV/AIDS, as well as its underlying causes to address issues of vulnerability, stigma and discrimination via inter-regional dialog, social science research and regional/country level workshops.
- Support the creation of an enabling legal framework for a comprehensive response to HIV/AIDS including provision of legislative review process and model of legislation enacted in each country to promote and protect the rights of people living with HIV/AIDS.
