Description/ overview:
The Initiation Plan (IP) aims at setting the framework for cooperation between the Syria Trust for Development and UNDP in establishing a National Platform of cooperation for development-based NGOs in Syria. The formulation of the Platform would provide the space and capacity for NGOs to coordinate activities, share experiences, explore links and identify areas of cooperation in assistance to national development frameworks such as the National Millennium Development Goals Report and the 10th National 5-Year Plan

Objectives:

  • Initiate a national dialogue to discuss the mechanisms of the Platform to gain a broad consensus and national ownership
  • Establish the Platform as a Unit under the auspices of the Trust
  • Conduct a capacity assessment of the Trust
  • Formulate capacity development strategies for the Trust to enable it to undertake its role in strengthening the capacities of NGOs within the National Platform
  • Initiate the Platform and prepare the full-fledged project document


Achievements / Current Status:
 

  • Platform team built
  • 4 workshops and 2 national dialogues (participation of 50+ NGOs from all of the country) to gain input and feed-back to the development of the new project document
  • Capacity assessment of Syria Trust for Development conducted and capacity building activities initiated
  • Project document for next phase of the platform finalized
