Falling within the practice area, Fostering Democratic Governance, this project aims to strengthen the role of the parliament in decision-making, oversight and legislative processes, resulting in more effective public policies leading to sustainable social, economic and human development and poverty reduction.
It further aims to provide the Parliament of Syria with technical, financial and human resources support to strengthen the institutional capacity of parliament, enhance the skills and performance of the Secretariat staff and contribute to the development of the legislative, oversight and representative functions of Elected Members and standing committees.
Study tours to regional and international parliaments and seminars for Parliament Members given by expert international consultants in the field of parliamentary reform are among the intended outcomes of the project, which is due to finish in 2006.
